Voice over LTE (VoLTE) calls, unlike calls made on 2G or 3G networks, use 4G LTE to send and receive voice data. That means static-free calls, none of the usual 5-10 second wait time when placing a call, and compared to Voice over Internet services, more efficient use of data and better sound quality. Star Telecom Alliance Resources, Inc. (Starmobile) and Smart Communications, Inc. has demonstrated the country’s first public VoLTE call made on the VoLTE-capable Starmobile FeatureSmart™ Evo 1 featurephone during the Smart Retailer Conference at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. Smart’s VoLTE service and the Starmobile FeatureSmart™ Evo 1 will be made available to the public soon.

Earlier this year, Smart made the country’s first VoLTE call in a Smart facility on a live network. VoLTE used to be a feature found only in high devices, until the Evo 1 came along. Note that for users to enjoy VoLTE, both the caller and the receiver must be using VoLTE-capable handsets on a VoLTE-enabled network. In areas where the service is not available, the Starmobile FeatureSmart™ Evo 1 can still be used to make regular 2G or 3G calls.
