Citi Philippines clients can now take advantage of anytime, anywhere mobile banking, free of data charges as Citi and Voyager Innovations collaborate to make the Citi Mobile App available via freenet, the free mobile internet platform used by enterprises to better serve their customers.

Smart, Sun Cellular, and TNT subscribers can now use the Citi Mobile App without getting charged for mobile data. With this partnership, Citi bank and credit card customers are able to view their account details, pay bills, transfer funds, and even find the nearest Citibank ATM or branch, through their mobile phones, without having to worry about incurring data charges.

Freenet is a platform that enables consumers to enjoy free access to social media feeds and other freenet partner sites which includes the biggest names in food, shopping, travel, lifestyle, news, mobile banking, and more.

City Philippines and Freenet

Anytime, Anywhere

Citi, the largest foreign bank in the Philippines, is the newest addition to freenet’s roster of partners in financial services which also includes exciting fintech apps and sites like PayMaya and Lendr.

“In the Philippines and across the globe, Citi is committed to be the world’s leading digital bank. We are relentlessly focused on leveraging the latest technology to make banking simpler, safer and more convenient for our clients. This is a welcome step in that direction,” said Bea Tan, managing director and consumer banking head of Citi Philippines.

Indeed, more Filipinos are taking advantage of the anytime, anywhere experience brought about by going digital. According to data from the GSMA intelligence, almost 50% of the Philippine population own a smartphone and over 30% of them are mobile internet users.

“The essence of the anytime, anywhere digital experience is happy customers. By making the Citi Mobile App accessible free of data charges, users are empowered to take their transactions online, and access their accounts within a few taps on their mobile phones.” said Benjie S. Fernandez, COO of Voyager Innovations.

Growing community

Freenet (formerly SafeZone) is a platform that lets users enjoy free access to over 70 partner sites anytime, anywhere – driving it to become the No. 1 local mobile community site in terms of unique page views as of June 2016, according to Effective Measure.

By downloading and registering to the freenet app, users are able to take advantage of the free internet experience brought by freenet.

“We are happy that communities are using freenet and participating in various digital engagements. We’re excited to onboard more Filipinos to our platform and let them enjoy the digital life.” Heidi Garayblas, Business Unit Head for Voyager Innovations’ freenet.

“As the ubiquity of internet becomes a given, and our customer’s need to stay connected increases, it makes more sense for us to bring our services closer to them, and enable them to manage their finances, whenever, wherever.” Alma Gruenberg, Citi Senior Vice President and Digital Banking Head

Freenet aims to grow this community by allowing its current and potential users to become digital participants in some of the most trending conversations in the country including: the livestream of Bilang Pilipino, TV5’s coverage on the 2016 Philippine Elections; the inauguration of Philippines’ 16th President, Rodrigo Duterte; the livestream of Gilas Pilipinas’ shot at the FIBA finals; and the welcoming of the sensational game that has captured the nation, Pokemon GO.

Recently, freenet itself has become the center of online conversation when their job post for lure managers has gone viral. In an effort to capture the Pokemon GO community, freenet launched its Lure Caravan where they power all-day lures at selected areas in the metro and provide updates on the location of the caravan’s stops.
