PLDT wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) continues to beef up its SIM registration (SIMreg) campaign among Mindanaoan youth, as the July 25 deadline draws nearer. In collaboration with the telco’s partner schools, Smart and its value brand TNT mounted assisted SIMreg booths in various colleges and universities in the cities of Cagayan de Oro, Davao, General Santos, Zamboanga and Ozamiz, as well as the provinces of Agusan del Sur, Bukidnon and Misamis Occidental.

Smart AVP for Vismin Customer Development, Grace Ruperto, shares, “Smart is expanding its SIM registration campaign to partner schools, because we want to encourage members of the school community to register their SIMs before the deadline. For students below 18 years old, registration will be done through their parents or guardians.”

Smart and TNT partnered with youth organizations and school ambassadors to help propagate SIMreg information on social media, and offered treats to encourage student members to register their SIMs using their school IDs.

Smart reaches out to more Mindanaoan youth for ‘last chance’ SIM registration

According to University of Mindanao student Reyjean Mae Alberio, “It was essential for me to register my SIM since I use this for my e-wallets and to contact my loved ones. I was hesitant at first because I don’t have a valid ID but thankfully, Smart and TNT honored my school ID. Thank you for a seamless registration assistance here in our campus,” she said.

Since the start of the year, SIMreg booths have been deployed to around 30 campuses all over Mindanao. In Davao City, students from Ateneo de Davao University and Holy Cross Davao College may still visit Smart and TNT booths for assisted registration from July 19 to 25, 2023.

Smart’s SIM card registration drive in schools is part of the company’s overarching goal to protect more subscribers from SIM-, internet-, and electronic communication-aided crimes. SIM owners have until July 25, 2023 to register their SIMs before these will be deactivated.

Subscribers are advised to register their SIMs to keep these active and to help fight against scammers and predators online. New and existing Smart Prepaid and TNT subscribers may also visit PLDT and Smart stores and access Smart’s SIMreg portal through smart.com.ph/simreg, while postpaid customers can simply text YES to 5858 to confirm their registration.
