PLDT and its wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) turned over relief assistance to Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Batangas, Cavite, and Laguna, which were affected by severe tropical storm #PaengPH.

“PLDT and Smart first served the impacted communities with communications as aid, through our Libreng Tawag, Libreng Charging, Libreng Wi-Fi, emergency load assistance, and Ligtas Kits. With the help of PLDT-Smart Foundation and our wider Tulong Kapatid partners through the MVP Group of Companies, we’re sending relief to the most affected, to help them recover,” said Cathy Yang, First Vice President and Group Head of Corporate Communications at PLDT and Smart.

PLDT-Smart Foundation (PSF), assisted by PLDT and Smart’s Mindanao teams, were able to bring food packs to Maguindanao del Norte, North Cotabato, and Zamboanga City.

PLDT, Smart ramp up relief assistance distribution to Paeng-hit provinces

Before ‘Paeng’ made its way to the Philippine islands, PLDT and Smart supported Albay’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office efforts by providing one Ligtas Kit, an all-in-one communications package that provides quick, emergency
communications support to communities in times of a disaster.

PSF have likewise extended the same assistance and provided the municipality of Datu Odin Sinsuat in Maguindanao del Norte with their own Ligtas Kit to help their future disaster risk operations.

More batches of relief packs are on their way as the Group continues to work on bringing much-needed aid to other ‘Paeng’-hit localities.

The Group’s sales teams were also able to deliver relief aid to residents of Carmona, Cavite. Among those present in the turnover were Carmona Mayor Dahlia Loyola and ABC President Almario Zamora. Imus City Mayor AA Advincula also joined PLDT and Smart in the distribution of food packs to their residents.

To date, PLDT, Smart, and PSF delivered 2,500 food packs to provinces in Luzon and Mindanao.  Volunteers from PLDT and Smart are already on their way to reach more provinces that experienced the onslaught of severe tropical storm ‘Paeng’.

PLDT and Smart underscores the value of communication aid as a lifeline during disasters and how prioritizing this can help accelerate bringing relief to those in need faster and better.
