Among the many concerns of Filipino migrant workers when they leave the country is purchasing a SIM card in the country of their destination to enable them to communicate at work and to stay in touch with their loved ones in the Philippines. For countries like South Korea, which has strict policies for foreign workers, there are several requirements that must be complied with before they are able to secure a local SIM. To support this particular need of Filipinos bound for the Land of the Morning Calm, PLDT Global Corporation (PLDT Global) has teamed up with South Korean telco agency JD Mobile Company (JDM Korea).

Under this partnership, PLDT Global and JDM Korea will provide OFWs with free SIM cards with one-month subscription plan which already includes data, voice, and texts before leaving the country. Securing local SIMs through PLDT Global can also help protect OFWs traveling to South Korea from falling victims to scam and voice phishing. Additionally, this partnership extends beyond mobile services as JDM Korea provides a one-stop OFW support service for accessing relevant information and assistance during their adjustment period.

“This is another expression of our commitment to help ensure that Filipinos living overseas can stay connected with their families back home. Through this partnership, we want to make the lives of our OFWs easier by providing them with the tools and services that they need while abroad. This also helps them manage their communication expenses, giving them more room to adjust as they settle down in a foreign land,” said Albert V. Villa-Real, President and CEO at PLDT Global.

The SIM card also enables them to access apps and other networks in South Korea. These SIMs will also be whitelisted for TINBO.ph registration once activated overseas, enabling them to immediately register on the TINBO platform, get their Smart Virtual Number, and enjoy the perks and products on TINBO.

“This also widens our portfolio of international partners, positioning PLDT Global as a partner-of-choice among global agencies when it comes to products and services that can benefit Filipinos living overseas,” Villa-Real added.

“We are very happy and honored to have signed a business agreement with PLDT Global. We expect that this will have a synergy effect in the development of our companies. We will actively cooperate in making sure that the best services of both companies will be delivered to our customers,” said Lim Yuonsub, President at JDM.

The partnership between PLDT Global and JDM comes on the heels of news that South Korea is planning to expand its Employment Permit System.

Powered by PLDT Global, TINBO is the one-stop marketplace that enables Filipinos living overseas to buy load, pay bills, send food vouchers, e-gifts, healthcare PINs from mWell, and even gaming PINs for their families in the Philippines. Through TINBO, they can also acquire a Smart virtual number (SVN), enabling them to receive important OTPs from their e-wallets and e-banks in the Philippines like Maya. TINBO also provides overseas Filipinos access to a convenient and secured online bills payment platform for their Philippine utilities, and other digital services while outside the Philippines.
