The National Teachers College (NTC) has partnered with Globe Telecom to create a team of tech-savvy educators that will become Google-certified educators who will learn new and valuable digital skills to become more effective in delivering remote learning.

Globe provided Google Level 1 and Level 2 certification readiness training to NTC’s 15 workforce development trainers, who once certified are tasked in turn to train graduating education majors under the school’s Education Professional Employment Program (PEP).

Google Certified Educator Level 1 is a certification confirming that a teacher has mastered the fundamentals of using Google tools and incorporating technology in classrooms for a more meaningful learning experience for students. The Educator Level 2 Certification gives educators an opportunity to validate their expertise and skills in technology integration.

Meanwhile, the Education PEP is an employment readiness program designed by the school to enable education majors to develop and master Google Educator Level 1 and Level 2 skills that are valuable in today’s job market, preparing them for tomorrow’s tech-driven education and training careers.

More than 2,200 education majors are expected to receive training from the certified workforce development trainers under the Education PEP in the next three years.

The NTC also sought Globe’s expertise Globe also extended its expertise in crafting and finalizing their NTC’s Education PEP curriculum, specifically seeking technical direction particularly around what topics and activities are relevant in the training.

“Partnering with Globe translates to enhanced capability, competence, and confidence both for our teachers and learners as we ensure the continuity of learning during these times,” said Dr. Ed Fermin, NTC’s Vice President for Academic Affairs. “With this, NTC was also able to create and manage safer, more secure, and supportive remote learning environments for our students.”

Forging a brighter future for Filipino students through Globe

A few years ago, before the pandemic drove schools to abruptly shift to online learning, NTC had already partnered with Globe to equip the campus with hotspots that would allow students to enjoy free internet access for the first 30 minutes and beyond that at very reasonable rates. This was in response to the students’ need for affordable and reliable internet connectivity to keep them enrolled and meet their academic requirements.

When NTC transitioned to remote learning due to the pandemic, it sought the assistance of Globe to adopt Google Workspace for Education into its learning system, which allowed teachers to become more effective and create virtual classrooms.

“As a company that strongly advocates quality education for all and believes that technology is key to delivering this, Globe values partnerships with academic institutions like NTC that help advance educational excellence and equity among Filipinos,” said Peter Maquera, Senior Vice President of Globe Business, Enterprise Group.

“As part of its commitment to quality education, Globe also fosters collaborations that give educators access to the right digital tools and skills crucial in reinventing teaching and learning processes appropriate in the modern classrooms and bringing education into the 21st century,” he added.

To cite an example of how the company reinforces its commitment to using technologies to enable digital and remote learning, Globe has also partnered with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) in offering free data access to the agency’s online learning portal for Globe and TM customers.

Globe strongly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly UN SDG No. 4 on the provision of quality education. Globe is committed to upholding the 10 United Nations Global Compact principles and 10 UN SDGs.
