Manila, Philippines – Mondelēz International Managing Director in the Philippines, Aleli Arcilla, talks about working closely with the community to ensure consumer satisfaction while providing snacks made the right way and with less impact on the planet. Since 2018, Mondelēz International has reduced carbon emissions from its manufacturing to 96%. Mondelēz International has announced a net zero greenhouse gas emission across its full value chain by 2050 as its goal. In the two years of joining the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi)’s Net Zero Carbon Ambition, Mondelēz International has submitted a time-bound plan within SBTi’s timeframe, consistent with the 1.5°C protocol. Furthermore, Mondelēz International confirms a goal to seek no deforestation across its primary commodities by 2025, according to the European Union Deforestation Regulation and SBTi guidance. More sustainable ingredient sourcing, operations, and logistics are already in progress.

The State of Snacking survey, commissioned by Mondelēz International and The Harris Poll, states in a 2022 edition survey that 61% of consumers agreed to pay a small carbon tax on products to offset their environmental impact. The Net Zero Carbon Alliance (NZCA) is a movement toward attaining net zero carbon emissions among businesses in the Philippines. As part of the NZCA, Mondelez Philippines has benefited from its roadmap to achieve carbon neutrality in collaboration with other businesses by or before the year 2050. Launched by the Energy Development Corporation (EDC), NZCA welcomes Mondelēz International among its members. Jerome H. Cainglet, President and Chief Operating Officer of EDC since 2021 says that the interest of numerous organizations and companies toward this movement means that businesses are now aware of decarbonization programs.
