Manila, Philippines – EastWest Rural Bank (EWRB) was honored with a Plaque of Appreciation from the Department of Education’s Learners’ Rights Protection Office (LRPO) in a prestigious ceremony held at the Manila Hotel on November 27, 2023. The award was presented by the Honorable Vice President and Secretary of Education, Sara Z. Duterte, during the 31st National Children’s Month (NCM) Culminating Activity.

Receiving the award on behalf of EWRB were President Sheila Marasigan Bajado and Florinda S. De La Cruz, Relationship Manager for DepEd and Lead of NCR Regional Operations. This recognition marks a significant milestone in the bank’s commitment to supporting educational initiatives and child protection efforts.

EWRB’s partnership with LRPO began in June 2023, highlighting the Bank’s dedication to corporate social responsibility. A notable contribution was the donation of approximately 280 computer units to schools with established Children Protection Committees, thereby enabling the members of the committee to efficiently carry out their task in protecting the rights of the students.

Further strengthening this partnership, EWRB played a pivotal role in the 2023 Palarong Pambansa event in Marikina City, showcasing its ongoing commitment to supporting LRPO’s initiatives.

“We are deeply honored to receive this recognition from the Learners’ Rights Protection Office. Our collaboration with LRPO underscores our commitment to empowering the youth through education and safeguarding their rights. At EastWest Rural Bank, we believe in creating meaningful impacts in the communities we serve. This accolade inspires us to continue our efforts in making a significant difference in the lives of our future generations,” stated Sheila Marasigan Bajado, President of EastWest Rural Bank.

The LRPO, formerly known as the Child Protection Unit and the Child’s Rights in Education Desk, operates under the DepEd Secretary’s Office. It was restructured as per DO No. 001, s. 2023, to bolster the implementation of the Child Protection Policy. This office, led by Usec. Revsee A. Escobedo, is dedicated to coordinating and implementing various programs, projects, and activities focused on child protection.

EWRB’s unwavering support for LRPO and its initiatives reflects the bank’s deep-rooted values in championing children’s rights and education in the Philippines. This recognition by the LRPO is not only a testament to EWRB’s impactful contributions but also serves as an inspiration for others to engage in meaningful collaborations that make a significant difference in society.

EastWest Rural Bank is a wholly-owned subsidiary of East West Banking Corporation under the Gotianun-led Filinvest Group.
