PLDT wireless subsidiary Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) and YouTube entered into a partnership in launching Creator Camp, which aims to discover creators across the country representing diverse passion points, demographics and stories, particularly from Visayas and Mindanao.

“At Smart, we believe in the talent and creativity of Filipinos all across the country, and we have partnered with YouTube to enable more local content creators to showcase their videos to the world,” said Gerard Milan, VP and Head of Prepaid Marketing for Smart, who attended the first leg of the Camp held at The Company Cebu IT Park in Cebu City on Dec. 7.

“We also offer video-centric data products like Giga Video, which comes with 1GB of YouTube every day, that allows them to share their passions and upload more of their content with the Philippines’ fastest mobile data network,” Milan added.

Described as a holistic acceleration program, YouTube Creator Camp provides educational, networking, and mobile data resources to participants and budding creators from outside Luzon with at least 10,000 subscribers. The camp will consist of three workshops: YouTube101 (Audience Development, Production, and Content Strategy), Power of Community (Collaboration and Community Features), and Building Your Business (Monetization, Business101, and Well-being).

“YouTube is all about talent development and inclusivity. Nowadays, we’re seeing a great number of Filipino creators from rural areas opening their own channels and making their names in the creator community. That’s why we are now expanding our reach outside Luzon and bringing our creator programs to provinces starting with Cebu through YouTube Creator Camp,” said Marc Lefkowitz, Head of YouTube Creator and Artist Development, APAC.

Participating creators also receive exclusive Smart LTE SIM packs bundled with Giga Video and free access to YouTube for 6 months to enable them to produce and upload more videos to their channels.

Best network for video

Third-party mobile analytics firm Opensignal has cited Smart for delivering the country’s best mobile video experience, download speed experience, upload speed experience and latency experience. Ookla, the global leader in internet testing, has likewise awarded PLDT and Smart for being the country’s fastest fixed and mobile networks.  With Smart’s improved LTE network, creators will be able to upload their videos faster.

Smart’s data-centric offers, such as Free YouTube Every Day, Video Every Day and Free YouTube For All, have also contributed to the increased video usage among Smart subscribers.

PLDT and Smart are continuously investing in improving customer experience on the network. For 2019, PLDT capex is expected to reach P78.4 billion, including allocations for the expansion of PLDT’s fiber network, which also supports Smart’s mobile network by providing high-capacity links for cellular base stations.
