At a small gathering of bloggers last June 24 at the Romulo Café in Makati, OPPO Philippines showcased the OPPO Joy 3. Alora Uy Guerrero, previously with Yahoo Philippines and now the Digital Manager for OPPO PH, led the presentation.

OPPO Joy 3 Specs:

4.5-inch IPS display (480×854 resolution)
1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6582 chipset
1GB RAM, 4GB internal storage, microSD card slot
5 MP rear cam (F2.4 aperture and flash), 2 MP front cam
Dual micro SIM, dual standby
ColorOS 2.0 UI (based on Android Kitkat 4.4)
SRP P6,490.00

Through the OPPO Joy 3, OPPO shows that budget phones don’t have to look or feel in your hand like purely plastic phones designed with a budget and aimed at the budget-conscious.

A solid metallic frame runs around the edges of the device making it feel sturdy in your hand, with a slight reassuring heft you won’t find in most budget phones. The Joy 3 feels like you can drop it and it can take the punishment and soldier on.

The 1.3 GHz quad-core processor and 1GB RAM are more than capable of shouldering daily usage. The phone’s 5 MP rear camera, which has OPPO’s Pure Image 2.0+ technology, is intuitive and comes with filter effects and shooting modes for creative effects, such as Beauty (facial feature softening for better looks), Double Exposure (two images overlapped), and GIF (turns burst shots into an animate image).

The OPPO Joy 3 runs ColorOS 2.0 on top of Android and sports nifty features, like double-tapping on the screen to wake it up, playing or pausing music by sliding two fingers up or down on the screen, or launching the camera by drawing a circle on the screen. Because of the Joy 3’s size, it’s comfortable to use in one hand.

The 4.5″ inch OPPO Joy 3 is one of the most elegant-looking, feels-good-in-your-hand budget phones around. While the screens of flagship phones are getting bigger, for the rest of us, our hands and budgets stay the same.
