Schneider Electric, the global specialist in energy management and automation, announced today that it has been recognized as one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies by the Ethisphere® Institute, the global leader in defining and advancing the standards of ethical business practices. This is the sixth consecutive year that Schneider Electric has received this accolade from Ethisphere®.

Through its World’s Most Ethical Company® list, the Ethisphere® Institute publicly honours companies that have demonstrated ethical leadership in their industries, using ethical conduct as a profit driver and a competitive differentiator. In 2016, 131 companies were designated the World’s Most Ethical Companies®, representing 53 industries across 21 countries.

Jean-Pascal Tricoire Chairman and CEO of Schneider Electric commented: “We are proud of this recognition for the sixth consecutive year. We go beyond the letter of the law and demonstrate the highest ethical standards in line with our corporate values. By disclosing information that proves our business walks the talk, we guarantee a transparent context to our customers while benefiting the planet and society.”

At Schneider Electric, ethics and governance are considered key drivers of growth and of competitiveness. They are managed through Our Principles of Responsibility, a set of guidelines designed to provide the Group’s employees with a framework for responsible behaviour. This document was formulated in line with the company’s principles of governance, the 10 principles of the Global Compact, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and international labor standards. Our Principles of Responsibility has been translated into 30 languages and sent to all Group employees. The “Responsibility & Ethics Dynamics” program also helps Schneider Electric employees to manage any ethical issues that may arise. The program is regularly communicated and audited internally, and since the beginning of 2015, it is serving as an indicator of ethical performance in the Planet & Society Barometer, the company’s sustainability scorecard. At the end of 2015, this indicator was well above target with 88 percent of Schneider Electric’s entities having passed the assessment. The objective is to reach 100 percent by the end of 2017.

The World’s Most Ethical Companies® assessment is based on the Ethisphere® Institute’s proprietary Ethics Quotient™ framework, which uses an extensive questionnaire to capture self-reported data in a consistent and standardized way. The Ethics Quotient™ framework and methodology is determined, vetted and refined by expert advice and insights gleaned from Ethisphere’s network of thought leaders and the World’s Most Ethical Company® Methodology Advisory Panel. In 2016, the Ethics Quotient™ rating system included more than 160 questions in five core categories: Ethics and Compliance Program (35%), Corporate Citizenship and Responsibility (20%), Culture of Ethics (20%), Governance (15%), Leadership, Innovation and Reputation (10%).
