According to Unbox.ph, Cherry Mobile (CM) will make available this December a dedicated selfie phone aptly named the Selfie. Brilliant move on the part of CM: not every one plays games on their phones nor do they need bleeding edge specs, but most people take tons of pics. Of themselves.

How does the Selfie compare to other “selfie” phones?

Even the well-reviewed Mi 3 (P10,600.00) and LG G3 (around P24k for the 32GB 3GB RAM variant on the gray market) only have 2MP-ish front cameras. The better selfie phones, such as the Huawei Ascend P7 and the Gionee Elife S5.5 are pegged at around P20k. Phones with rotating cameras, like the Oppo N1 and it successor, are now being copied by Torque but the camera quality maybe questionable (all just launched 4 Torque phones cost around P5k each). Imagine, for just a bit more than what you’d pay for an ASUS ZenFone 5, you can have a great camera phone.

And as for Sony’s own “selfie” phone, the Sony Xperia C3, that’s still priced at around P15 and only has 1GB ram and a 5MP front camera.

So we’re really pumped up and cheering for Cherry Mobile. Despite the large forehead, this might just be a great phone.
