Meralco’s social development arm, One Meralco Foundation (OMF), celebrates the electrification of 100 off-grid public schools in far-flung communities through its school electrification program. OMF enlisted the help of Meralco Energy, Inc. (MServ) in installing solar photovoltaic systems in schools without electricity both within and beyond the Meralco franchise area. Every school energized by the program also received a multimedia package consisting of an LED TV, a laptop computer and a printer donated by Meralco employees through Meralco Employees Fund for Charity (MEFCI).
Above photos shows Aeta students of Diaz Elementary School in Porac, Pampanga, the 100th school, carrying a symbol of their school’s electrification. They are greeted by Meralco Chairman Manny V. Pangilinan (2nd from left) and Department of Education Secretary Bro. Armin Luistro (3rd from left), during the recent “The Power of Dreams” event held at the Meralco Theatre. With them are Meralco President & CEO Oscar Reyes and OMF President Jeffrey Tarayao.
The 100 schools energized by One Meralco Foundation are located in Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Palawan, Bohol, Cebu, Dinagat Islands, Cagayan, Saranggani, Leyte, Romblon, Western & Northern Samar, Surigao Del Sur & Norte, and South Cotabato. The program is set to energize twenty more remote schools by the end of the year.
